Rosariumvideo installation
2024

In a context where very different generations coexist, Rosarium places itself at the centre of the social fabric to find a common language, not only in large city centres, or small villages, but also within the family unit. Inspired by a daily cycle of summer days in the country of origin, the artist finds points of encounter in the practice of praying the rosary and instant digital messaging, both of which are used and known by the entire family. The rosary is a contemplative devotional prayer that opens with an invocation, followed by a cycle of ten prayers called mysteries. Each cycle is repeated several times depending on which rite is recited, in short or long form. In order not to lose count of the prayers, the rosary beads, a circular chain composed of spherical beads, are passed between the fingers of the hands.

Starting from the structure of the rosary, the artist rewrites the prayers by combining liturgical language with that of digital messaging. While some phrases respect the literal translation of the reference prayer, those that make up the mysteries follow a different logic. The mystery recited during the rosary is an account of a significant event in the story of a biblical character. In this case, important moments in the artist’s past that indelibly marked her being a daughter and a woman in a patriarchal family and social structure are recovered in memory.
